Days of Change is an in school program for middle and high school age youth that is centered around diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our student driven workshops will bring a diverse group of the student body together into one room where we can develop a strong appreciation of our differences, and through student centered activities, discuss how we can work toward bettering our communities through acceptance and relationship building.
Who can take part in Days of Change?
Garden State Equality will work with school clubs, such as Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSA’s), Multicultural Clubs, Black Student Unions, and other DEI and social justice based groups to offer half day and full day programs that will mirror our week long summer camp program that takes place at the end of August. This program is available for both middle schools and high schools.
What is a Day of Change filled with?
During a program, students will participate in workshops that will ask the following questions:
- What does equity look like?
- Is there a difference between equity and equality?
- Does power and privilege look the same to us as individuals? How so? Does it look different?
- What does it look like when someone holds more status than someone else?
- How can we practice encouraging a shared sense of community with one another?
- The bystander effect-what is it? And how do we stop encouraging it?
- How can you be an upstander in your community?
- What are the tangible steps that we can take to make action plans to create inclusive spaces?
Cost of programming is $600 for a half day program and $1200 for a full day program. Fees for the program cover the cost of participation in our Changemakers DEI Youth Leadership Initiative. A half day program guarantees a spot for one participant to attend camp, and a full day program guarantees a spot for two participants to attend camp.
